The Great Science Share for Schools (GSSfS) is the award-winning campaign that invites 5-14 year olds to share their own scientific questions and investigations, to raise the profile of science in schools and communities, and to be inspired into science and engineering.

Themed activities and lessons are brought to teachers and educators, to inspire them to ask, investigate and share scientific questions they’re curious about.

The campaign links to the issues discussed in the world global COP26 conference leading up to the campaign celebration on 14th June 2022.

Last year 212,000 young people people took part, from within the UK and internationally. This includes 182,000 who took part via their school, and 30,000 who took part at home or via another organisation. To put this number into context, this is more than double the number of participants from previous years put together!

Each year I am staggered by the way teachers, pupils and a wider range of national organisations get involved in the Great Science Share for Schools. Once just a vision for ‘something that could be’ now makes a meaningful difference to thousands of young people! I take my hat off to everyone involved and look forward to what more we can achieve by working together!
— Dr Lynne Bianchi, Campaign Director, Great Science Share for Schools

39% of schools we have data for were high priority schools.

1,068 schools and colleges in the UK took part. 39% of schools we have data for were high priority schools according to our Manchester Prioritisation Model; this means they have high proportions of pupils from areas of high socioeconomic disadvantage, a key focus for The University of Manchester’s Widening Participation and Social Responsibility goals.
