The collaboration with The Derby High School started well before GSSfS was even launched. The partnership has thrived over many years, and this connection between their pupils and Thai schools is one of many successes. Read more about the partnership here.

This venture into sharing science globally arose out of the GSSfS Changemaker project, first run back in 2019. This sought to extend the pupils’ opportunity to make a real difference across the local community and now across the world.

3 cohorts of pupils have since taken part:

2024 cohort - 9 students
2025 cohort cohort - 15 students
2026 cohort - 22 students are engaged to take part!

Watch the film below to see how students have involved Burmese and Thai pupils in a range of Great Science Share for Schools enquiries. With a core focus on engaging young children in hands-on practical science and thinking about global sustainability issues, this really is a GSSfS with a difference!

We wish this year’s cohort a safe and impactful trip on 26th June 2025!

Read more about their plans below. For event more information visit the school’s Changemakers webpage.

On June 26th, The Derby High School’s International Changemakers will bring The Great Science Share for Schools to the Foundation for Education and Development (FED) Unified Learning Centre in Khao Lak, Thailand. The GSSfS team has supported teachers and students at The Derby High School in developing the skills needed to lead scientific investigations during their 12-day work experience. Students have taught their peers at The Derby and visited local feeder primary schools to refine their skills ahead of the trip.

This year’s GSSfS theme is Connected Science, with a focus on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. [sdgs.un.org], which aligns perfectly with the students’ work in Thailand. The International Changemakers will work with conservation groups studying coastal erosion, endangered sea turtles, and elephant sanctuaries. They will participate in beach clean-ups, spend a night in the rainforest, and meet tsunami survivors.
